Soul6 Manifesto

So here I am.  After a few days of confusing web hosting, domain, and WordPress…let’s call it “exploration”, I am making my first post.  I figure the best way to start is to define what this is all going to be about.

So, what is this all about? Perhaps it’s best to start with who I am, and maybe that’ll give a little background for the Why of all this.

I’m a artist living in Florida, doing commercial art for a living (more on that later).  I knew since I was a little kid I wanted to do art for a living.  That was set, but everything else, well…that’s a different story.  I was the weird girl, the loner who stayed in the library by choice, instead of going to PE. I did really well in school, and college. Found a job doing art, which compared to my classmates, I’d call myself fortunate.  If you want to know more specifics, you can check here. All that mundane stuff is pretty normal, but that’s what I did, it’s not who I am. Who am I you ask?

At heart I’m a seeker, and chances are so are you even if you don’t know it yet.

What do I seek? Everything! The weird, the esoteric, the beautiful.  I strive to find that connection with the other (call it the divine if you want).  In doing so I find myself in all sorts of strange modalities and this blog is going to be a part of that.

Also I do art.  Mostly boring art, logos and such. That’s my day job.  I’m also an illustrator when I get the time to do it.  I’ll be posting that stuff on here occasionally.  Did I mention I’m a magician?  Thelemite to be exact.  Go ahead and google it, I’ll wait.  I’ll be posting thoughts about that stuff on here too, as well as a broad range of topics I find interesting and I hope you will too.  My interests are varied so you might get some commentary on social issues one day and my thoughts on ritual in modern life the next.

And now that you know I’m weird, you’re probably thinking “what’s with the name Soul6?”

Rather than just a trendy sounding word combined with a number, there actually is a reason behind the name.  In almost every western mystical tradition, the Tree of Life plays a huge part in categorizing and connecting concepts that the magician relates to in both the mundane and mystical worlds.  I won’t get into too much detail in this post, but basically there are 10 spheres that represent big Ideas, and the sixth sphere’s big idea is that of the Great Work, or doing your will. Finding your path and connecting with it and through that, connecting with the highest ideals.  Among other various correspondences is the image of the Sun, or Sol.  I thought I was being clever, so I changed it to Soul. Thus the name was born.

I won’t lie, I’m tired of normal 8-5 office life.  The lights hurt my head, the work is drudgery, and the conversation is quite frankly boring.  I hope that you will join me in this adventure.  I have some ideas for the future, but for now lets just keep things weird, and lets talk about something other than the commercial you saw last night while watching football, or the comment your friend posted on Facebook.
